唐代诗僧寒山如何“遇见”西方极简主义画家?故事要回溯到20世纪50年代。

马登利用绘画的方式对源于中国的诗歌文化进行“转译”,所绘的《冷山》系列不仅成为了他在20世纪80年代后期广受关注与赞誉的作品,作品《冷山I(路径)》(Cold Mountain I (Path) ,1988-89)更是在纽约苏富比2010年5月12日当代艺术品拍卖会以9,602,500美元的高价售出。
“我对中国诗歌很感兴趣。我爱诗歌因为它们都是那么单纯。”谈及对中国诗歌文化的热爱,布莱斯·马登曾如此表示过。此次展览中,观众可以通过开幕式上比尔·波特朗读的寒山诗译文及展出的素描绘画中窥见马登对中国文化的探索线索,以及其笔触与书法的呼应。
