September20, 2019 Mao Space, with the special support of PHOTOFAIRS Shanghai 2019 andthe Italian Culture Institute in Shanghai, presents “Seagull” thefirst solo exhibition of Italian photographer Max Cavallari. Curated by SilviaVannacci, the exhibition will run from September 20 till October 10, 2019 at Mao Space, 112 Tianping Road, Shanghai.

“Seagull”, aselection of photographs from a series of shots taken during the artist’s residency at Swatch Art Peace Hotel earlier this year, presents glimpses from aprocess of wandering and grasping today China.

In a world of visual hypertrophyfull of phone-size screen swiped images, where pictures are taken with aconsumeristic approach that spoils the quality and aesthetics of photos, theartist chooses to discover China through the lenses of a Seagull 4A, aShanghainese twin lens reflex from the 1960s.

“The camera and I”

Acknowledges Cavallari “areexperiencing the feeling of being lost, for different spatiotemporal reasons,in an unfamiliar world which urges you, to tell a story about it, in one way oranother.” Thecamera, lost in time, becomes for the artist, lost in space, the medium to aprocess of discovery.
