曲丰国、张如怡参加蜂巢(北京)当代艺术中心展览“零度之维:抽象艺术的理性表达”及Hi艺术中心展览“曲和直:抽象的逻辑”。
“零度之维”试图以罗兰·巴特把写作与写作形式及语言进行切割的文学观念,解构’85新潮美术运动中的话语标本之一“理性绘画”对中国当代抽象艺术实践造成的深远影响,甚至进行抗辩。通过将抽象视作口头的行为,在历史的推论之外建立起新的非线性叙事。无独有偶,“曲和直”设法冲破后绘画性抽象的藩篱,将中国当代抽象艺术实践安置在一种替代性的地缘情境中。
曲丰国自上世纪九十年初开始抽象绘画的创作,摒弃笔触而以机械性操作所得的线条规划出色相文本的生成语法。张如怡则利用工业纸上的矩阵,重新编码现代“格子”与古典“格子”的固有矛盾,并结合现成物在雕塑与装置创作中进一步还原“格子”作为媒介的自律性。曲丰国与张如怡都是上海抽象艺术的开拓者,虽然来自不同世代,但是二人的创作共同承载着城市空间结构的具体意志。
“零度之维:抽象艺术的理性表达”与“曲和直:抽象的逻辑”今日开幕,分别展至7月7日与6月21日。
QU Fengguo and ZHANG Ruyi are participating "Degree Zero of Art: the Rational Expression of Abstract Art" at Hive Center for Contemporary Art (Beijing) and "Bent & Straight - The Logic of Abstract" at Hi Art Center.
Taking Roland Barthe’s literary critique that distinguishes the concept of a writing from that of a style or language as the very entry, "Degree Zero of Art" deconstructs and even contradicts the sample discourse of "Rational Painting" stemmed from the '85 New Wave movement, which continues to influence the contemporary practice of abstract art in China. The exhibition attempts to establish a new non-linear narrative of abstraction beyond the historical induction by deeming abstraction as a verbal act. Coincidentally, "Bent & Straight" strives to break free of post-painterly abstraction, but accommodates the practice of Chinese abstraction in the alternative of a geopolitical situation.
QU Fengguo initiated his abstract works in the early 90s, abandoning brushstrokes while applying the stripes manually produced by mechanical operations, to formulate a generative grammar for the chromatic text in his paintings. ZHANG Ruyi utilises the matrix coming with the industrial paper to recode the inherent contradiction between the modern "grids" and the classical "grids". Through the incorporation of readymades in sculptural and installation pieces, she further restores the automaticity of "grids" as a medium. Both QU and ZHANG are the pioneers for abstract art in Shanghai. From different generations though, their works together bear the specific will behind the spatial configuration of the city.
"Degree Zero of Art: the Rational Expression of Abstract Art" and "Bent & Straight - The Logic of Abstract" at Hi Art Center open today and will last until July 7 and June 21, respectively.
