Karl Fred Dahmen
(1917-1981)
Born in Stolberg (near Aachen) in 1917, Germany, Karl Fred Dahmen attended the art school in Aachen from 1931 until its closure in 1933. In 1967 he was appointed professor at the Munich Academy of Arts, and moved to Chiemgau. There he spends the last years of his life.
As a painter and object artist, Dahmen is one of the earliest and most important representatives of the Informel and is one of the most important artists of the post-war period in Germany. In the postwar period, he lived in Paris influenced by Ecole de Paris. As a co-founder of the Neue Aachener Gruppe, he is keen to encourage a cultural exchange with the "Ecole de Paris". In 1953 he and his representatives organized the first Franco-German exhibition "Heute" in the Aachen Museum. In 1957 Dahmen joined the Deutscher Künstlerbund. There he belongs to the group of "German Tachists Deutscher Künstlerbund", the works of the early phase of the work reveal these influences. In addition, the artist's early work includes wooden collages in addition to the tachistically oriented images.

From the mid-sixties, the artist increasingly integrated various objects into his pictures. Material images and object boxes are created, making a connection of the work of art to life over real things. Dahmen received the first international art prize for abstract painting in 1959 and Graphic Arts Prize in 1972. His works are widely included in major museums like Museum Ludwig, Museum Folkwang, Pompidou, Kunstmusuem Basel and other private collections.

关于画廊 About Gallery
PIFO Gallery was founded in 2006. Which is China's premier gallery to present abstract art. PIFO brings together the works of contemporary Chinese artists with European post-war masters. At PIFO we believe that the experience of art is profoundly transformative. Seeing the world differently through the works of artists is an inspiration. We encourage our collectors to develop their individual vision and share our expertise in art to help them build excellent collections. The goal is to spread connoisseurship for Asian and Western abstraction in art and deepen the understanding and appreciation for the artists that we (re-)discovered and believe in.
